Overall, I have really enjoyed the process of learning to make a buckram hat for a chosen character. I feel like it went well in terms of sticking to my design and brief. Slight details have changed from the design due to aesthetic reasons I thought the outcome worked better. Coffee staining the price tag bought the authenticity from the original product back to the modernised version of the hat. Using a pattern from a book really helped my understanding of the pattern and how the construction of buckram hats works. Creating the lining of the hat I struggled with as I didn’t measure my brim correctly and made it too small, however, I had no more fabric to redo this. I overcame this by making a ribbon to go around the edge to neaten it. I enjoyed making the hat pins using wooden sticks and beads, I stained the beads with toothpaste to give the older worn down look. I chose a reel of thread with a contrasting colour to stand out and one with a wooden reel to look older and add the overall effect.
